A jacket is a type of sleeved hip- or waist-length garment for the upper body. For clothing older than the mid-nineteenth century, a distinction is often maintained with a coat, but in many instances the terms are now interchangeable. A jacket is generally shorter, ending just below the waist, and often lighter. Some jackets are fashionable, while others serve as protective clothing Motorbike jacket’s name is itself descriptive enough that these types are used by motorcyclists. Manufactured with an aim to provide protection against seasonal weather changes and security. These women’s motorcycle jackets are trendy giving desired complete protection.

Jackets — generally made from leather, ballistic nylon, cordura, Kevlar or other synthetics. Most jackets include special padding on elbows, spine and shoulders. Airbag system technology is now available fitted to jackets and vests for accident protection and impact protection for both riders and pillions. Competition-approved hard armor is superior to soft padding. Competition-approved back and chest protectors can be worn underneath jackets. Inflatable airbag jackets can offer an additional airbag for neck support. If you have not already purchased a motorcycle jacket, you should strongly consider it. You don’t need an entire wardrobe of them, but choosing a high quality, durable motorcycle jacket is important for safety when you are riding your motorcycle. Here are the top 5 reasons why you should purchase a motorcycle jacket:

1. Protection: Motorcycle jackets offer the rider protection from both the elements and from injury in the event of a crash. Most come standard with padding in the highest impact areas, such as the shoulder and the elbows. In the event of a potential crash, this padding and protection will help to prevent burns and abrasions that are commonly experienced by riders who are not wearing this protective clothing. Also, many motorcycle jackets some standard with reflective gear that can offer additional safety for riders at night. While these jackets don’t often double as daywear fashion, they are great for ensuring the safety of the riders.

2. Comfort: Motorcycle jackets are not only great for safety reasons, they are also great for giving the rider comfort whether they are just riding around town, or on a long journey. Motorcycle jackets can help protect against wind, sun and heat and even bugs. You would be surprised at how much these environmental elements will affect a rider.

3. Style: Motorcycle jackets can also offer just plain style to riders who wear them. Offered in a variety of materials, styles and colors, riders can truly customize their appearance when riding.

4. Fashion off the bike: Motorcycle jackets have become a mainstream fashion item for many people around the world. They are actually considered to be quite fashionable and trendy, attracting even non-riders to wear them. You will not only be able to get great use from your jacket while on the road, but you can wear it daily as a piece of your wardrobe. The ability to wear the motorcycle jacket any time will also help to defer the costs of your purchase. Consider the item as an investment piece within your wardrobe.

5. Feeling: Motorcycle jackets are just a part of the complete look. Jackets have long been considered a traditional staple for riders, and by wearing one, you will instantly feel like an experienced rider. In fact, the type of jacket that you choose can even give you a certain strut in your walk.

The choices of motorcycle jackets available today are varied and plentiful. Styles are as unique as their designers, and modern synthetic materials give the biker an added option over the standard leather jacket, a tried and true material for protection against the elements and the road.

By today’s standards, most of the major motorcycle apparel manufacturers have come to agree on a common set of characteristics that tend to the specific needs of bikers as learned over the years.

Many of these needs vary with personal taste, and will vary with the type of riding being done, and the individual priorities of the discerning consumer.

The utility motorcycling leather tool bags

Driving in your neighborhood on your bike could be highly dangerous. Approximately 90% of urban motorcycle accidents are caused the other driver not by the motorcyclist. Riding with your headlights on is very important to being seen. Bright colors or reflective stripes can help a lot.

For those of us who are into styling, there are some great looking motorcycle clothing on the market these days. However, not all of the motorcycle clothing offers as much protection as you think. Protective motorcycle clothing are not created equal. In Europe, they have a standard for motorcycle clothing. For it be lawfully sold as “safety” clothing, it has to pass a series of European standards and bear the CE mark, which are pretty lengthy. How does the clothing performance hold up in abrasion, tearing and impact tests. Once they pass the test, then the manufacturer are allowed to sell the motorcycle protective clothing with the CE mark. Unfortunately, USA has no such regulation is available in the USA. Cheer up, all is not lost. Just requires you to pay attention to what you are buying.

Research suggests that majority of bike accident deaths could have been avoided if the rider had worn protective gears like the helmet or the motorcycle jacket. Motorcycle jackets or motocross jerseys help to minimize the severity of injuries thus emphasizing their utilities.

Motorcycle jackets can be effective safeguards against serious injuries. These jackets are lined with foam and padding in the high impact areas like shoulders, and elbows. Being the only obstacle between the ground and the body (in case the vehicle crashes), these jackets offer adequate protection against severe injury and abrasion.

Not many people realize that most motorcycle injuries occur below the belt. You love your legs and feet but when you are riding a motorcycle, the are extremely vulnerable to injuries. Make sure you wear a decent pair of high boots and protective pants. Leather, thick leather is a good choice. Check the pants for reinforcement at the knees and hips. The better safety pants should attach to your jacket by a zipper. Boots should be thick leather, with a sole that can flex with the foot but has a resistance to crushing across the foot. Heard of steel toe shoes? Well not a bad ideal for when you are riding.

The history of material normally used for motorcycle protective clothing has been leather. The thick nylon and other synthetic materials will work well too. Look into Kevlar reinforced jeans which hold up much better than normal jeans while skidding across asphalt at 70 m.p.h. Here is an interesting fact. According to the European standard abrasion test, normal jeans last 0.6 seconds, while protective motorcycle pants will last 5 seconds or more. Think about 5 seconds of protection versus about 0.5 seconds. If you have to think very hard, you have been riding your motorcycle without a helmet again. Go with the Kevlar protected, re-enforced jeans.

Want to keep those fingers looking good and attached? You must have a decent pair of gloves. When you fall, you instinctively put out your hands palm side down to stop yourself in a slide, so the palms of your gloves should made of thick leather or knitted Kevlar and reinforced with patches. Knitted Kevlar is especially good for this kind of abrasion resistance, but reinforced leather works well too.

That old saying it only hurt when I stop. Well, apply that saying to when you hit the pavement. Impact protection can be bought separately like back protectors. If you buy it, make sure you wear it. Depending on your personality, it might be best motorcycle protective clothing with a degree of impact protection included so that you know when you put on your jacket and pants, the protection is there and you don’t have to remember to put it on.

Personal protective equipments

July 26th, 2009 by faport

Fashion garments, caps,Hats, gloves & western clothing concerns many aspects of vehicle and equipment design as well as operator skill and training that are unique to motorcycle riding.

To address the risks of motorcycling, before and after a fall, motorcyclists use personal protective equipment (PPE, or more commonly “motorcycle gear”). Many developed countries now require certain articles of PPE, and manufacturers and governments recommend its extensive use

FAP-MBS-006

Personal protective equipment (PPE) refers to protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garment designed to protect the wearer’s body or clothing from injury by blunt impacts, electrical hazards, heat, chemicals, and infection, for job-related occupational safety and health purposes, and in sports, martial arts, combat, etc. body armor is combat-specialized protective gear. In British legislation the term PPE does not cover items such as armour.

PPE can also be used to protect the working environment from pesticide application, pollution or infection from the worker (for example in a microchip factory). The protection may be important in both ways, as with the use of disposable gloves by surgeons and dentists.

The terms “protective gear” and “protective clothing” are in many cases interchangeable; “protective clothing” is applied to traditional categories of clothing, and “gear” is a more general term and preferably means uniquely protective categories, such as pads, guards, shields, masks, etc.

Common protective materials include Nomex and Kevlar.

FAP-SJ-766

Functions of personal protective equipment

  • Improved Visibility — Although for decades the popular image of the motorcycle rider has been of someone clad head-to-toe in black leather, in the light of the Hurt Report findings, and the day-to-day experiences of motorcyclists themselves, many riders choose higher-visibility gear. Bright colors and retro reflective strips are common on quality equipment.
  • Abrasion Resistance — Thick, tough leather provides the most abrasion resistance in a crash, but fabrics such as Cordura, Kevlar and ballistic nylon provide significant protection too. In addition, fabrics are generally cheaper, easier to maintain, waterproof, and more comfortable in hot weather. Thick leather, which affords the most abrasion resistance, can be uncomfortable in temperatures exceeding 85 °F (29 °C) and above 100 °F (38 °C) may cause heat stress & loss of control with insufficient fluid replacement. Some PPE may be constructed of fabrics made into a ‘mesh’ that provides cooling and a stable surface for the attachment of padding.
  • Padding — Quality jackets and pants provide significant extra padding in the vulnerable joint regions described above. This can take the form of simple foam padding, or dual-density foam that stiffens when compressed, sometimes with plastic or carbon fiber outer-shells that distribute the impact across the pad. Integrated pieces can be found in some jackets.
  • Weather Protection — One important aspect of PPE not mentioned above is protection from the elements. Extreme weather can make a long ride unbearable or dangerous. PPE provides protection from wind, rain and cold.

Ladies do need leather chaps

July 26th, 2009 by faport

FCH-004

Leather leggings joined by a belt or lacing, often having flared outer flaps, and worn over the trousers (as by western ranch hands). Leather chaps were worn in the old west by cowboys riding their horses.  Cowboys & cowgirls wore them over their pants to protect themselves and keep warm.  The wearing of leather chaps was later adapted to the “iron horse”.  Motorcycle riders wear leather chaps to keep themselves warm and to protect them from road rash in the event of a crash or fall.  In modern times, leather chaps have become not just rider protection but they are also a fashion statement!  Men, women, and kids all have a wide variety of leather chaps available to choose from!

Chaps are sturdy coverings for the legs consisting of leggings and a belt. They are buckled on over trousers with the chaps’ integrated belt, but unlike trousers they have no seat and are not joined at the crotch. They are designed to provide protection for the legs and are usually made of leather or a leather-like material. They are most commonly associated with the cowboy culture of the American west as a protective garment to be used when riding a horse through brushy terrain. In the modern world, they are worn for both practical work purposes and for exhibition or show use.

Chaps can be found in a variety of styles with many different details such as leather chaps. Full length chaps are attached at the waist with the seat missing to allow contact with the saddle and the rider’s legs are fully covered with the seam on the outside of the leg for comfort. These are not commonly worn in English riding although they can provide a great source of warmth and comfort. Half chaps, as the name suggests, are worn on the lower legs. They too can be made from a variety of materials, and are worn for additional comfort when riding. Usually chaps are fitted with a zip or Velcro down the outside of the leg with a strap under the foot to fasten them into place. When worn with Jodhpur boots they help to limit chafing between the saddle and the lower leg and prevent Jodhpur boots from rising up.

Ladies chaps
Ladies chaps are readily available in market and just like men’s chaps these ladies chaps are used while riding motorcycles and horses. These ladies chaps are made from fine quality leather and play an important role in protecting their soft legs. Ladies chaps are available in various designs and shapes. Some of the ladies chaps that are available in market are as follows.
- Ultra suede fringed ladies chaps: These chaps are available in various colors and used by ladies while riding horses. These chaps protect the rider from wind and snowy weather.

FCH-005

- Ladies tone half chaps: These ladies chaps are very comfortable while riding motorcycle and horse. A Ladies tone half chap is washable and has stretchable elastic to fit perfectly for various sizes of legs.
- Elite colored half chaps: These chaps are available in various attractive colors and mostly preferred by ladies who are not professional horse riders and motorcyclists. These chaps can be washed in washing machines.

- Icon ladies kitty chaps: These chaps are provided with full-length metal zips for easy removal and are manufactured from fine quality leathers that last for longer duration. These chaps are normally pink in color to match the skin color of the ladies.

Ladies leather motorcycle chaps: It is manufactured from genuine leather and available in full length along with facility of zip closing. These chaps are worn on lower legs to provide comfortable and easy movement of the lower  legs during motorcycle driving.

Body armor is best protection for motorcycling

July 26th, 2009 by faport

fap-shr-345

Body armors are protective shields that stop the projectiles from penetrating into the body. Present day armors are generally called as bulletproof vests. Moreover, the advancement in the ammunition technology has lead to the development of different types of body shields. Police personnel, army men and private security guards mainly use these bulletproof vests.

The design of body armor and the material used in them varies. Kevlar fiber is the most effectual material used to make body shields or armors in recent days. The unique characteristic of the Kevlar is that it is lightweight. However, it is stronger than the hardest steel available.

The Kevlar fibers are twisted and interwoven individually covered by other materials such as resin as well as plastic. Kevlar material is capable of absorbing huge energy.

Types of Body Armors:

1.   Soft bullet proof vest: Police personnel and private security guards use this type of vest very commonly. They are made of woven fibers and soft clothing, which are interwoven together into net.  Soft bullet proof vests protect the users from ordinary weapons and reduce the impact of bullet by dispersing its energy. These bullet proof vests are incapable to protect from high caliber ammunition.

2.   Interceptor vests: Interceptor bulletproof vests are made of Kevlar vest and other small protective plates. They weigh around 16.4 lbs. These plates are removable and serve as protection to throat, groin, front and back. These types of vests are capable of stopping 7.62 mm of bullets from penetrating into the body.

3.   Personnel Kevlar vest: This type of physical armor or vest is made of thick Kevlar filler. Personnel Kevlar vest has different sections to offer better fit. This type of Kevlar vest has swivel shaped shoulder pads, two frontal pockets, a  ¾th collar, two hangers to hold grenade and butt patches at the shoulder area to carry a rifle.

FAP-SJ-767

4.      Dragon skin armor: Dragon skin armor is made of small spherical discs. The discs used are of silicon carbide ceramic, which are overlapped one over the other same as that of fish scales. The peculiar arrangement of this armor offers higher flexibility and protects the body from the multiple hits.

What is Cordura?

July 17th, 2009 by faport

FAP-CB-7018

CORDURA was the registered name of a certified (nylon) fabric from DuPont. Today, it is the registered name of a high-performance Nylon-6,6 product. It is used in a wide range of products from luggage and backpacks to boots, military apparel (such as tactical blade sheaths, ammunition pouches, etc.), and performance apparel.

It is designed to be long-lasting and resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs.

As a brand name, CORDURA reaches back to 1929 as a development of Rayon. The product was further developed during World War II and used by the military in tires. From 1966 when new formulations of nylon proved superior, the CORDURA brand was transferred to the nylon product instead.

CORDURA has continued to be developed as a brand with new products applied to an increasing range of items such as:

  • luggage
  • motorcycle clothing
  • anywhere that abrasion resistance is important
  • sporting and recreational equipment

Cordura is a dense 1000/280 denier weave, but lightweight (about 11 oz. per yard) and breathable. It has excellent resistance to scuffing and pilling under demanding conditions. Its new super-softness makes it comfortable as well as stylish and functional.  CORDURA fabric is what the most respected brands, retailers and militaries around the world use when they need to make a product that’s durable, versatile and reliable. Constructed using high tenacity fiber technologies, ounce for ounce, CORDURA fabrics are more durable than comparable unbranded fabrics. Fact is, no matter the application, our fabrics are “best-in-class.” But more importantly, they have to pass our own stringent test criteria before they can earn the CORDURA brand name. They’re available in a wide range of weights – from ultra lightweight to heavy weight. And CORDURA fabrics come in many different constructions and textures. All in all, they’re the fabrics that make strong, long-lasting products even tougher in several categories - from outdoor gear and work wear to luggage and upholstery

FCJ-003

In the CORDURA brand world, durable fabrics are everything. Funny thing is, they play a significant role in your world, too. You just might not realize it yet. Explore each category in our Durable Products section and see for yourself how CORDURA fabrics strengthen hundreds upon hundreds of products. The general rule of thumb being, if it’s built to take some serious punishment and last a long time, it’s more than likely made with CORDURA. Cordura has properties like water repellant, tear resistance and durability. Along this, we find a huge color selection and prints in Cordura that are impossible to be found in leather.

For more than 30 years, the CORDURA brand has been recognized worldwide as the fabric of choice when it comes to durability. We’re quite proud of that fact. We’re also proud of the many terrific business relationships we’ve formed over the years and look forward to continuing them and forging new relationships as we lead the way in durable fabric innovations For more information please visit http:/www.faport.com.

Motorcycling leather saddle bags

July 17th, 2009 by faport

FAP-RLTW-001

Saddlebags are the bags that are attached to saddles. They’re designed to hold everything from sponges to sandwiches, and to fit on just about every part of the saddle. A must have for everyone who wants to be ready to hit the trail. Most of the saddle bags can be made from various materials, although leather was the traditional material it is heavier and requires more maintenance than many modern versions. Smaller ones are typically used to hold a few items such as tools, waterproofs, food, first-aid kit etc. We need to choose the closures for secure fit that doesn’t slide and distribute the weight safely.

Saddlebags or panniers mount on either side of the rear of the motorcycle roughly beside (but not interfering with) the pillion passenger. “Hard” panniers commonly come in an injection moulded plastic such as ABS, and “soft” panniers come in some form of textile (e.g. Cordura) or leather. Saddle bags are nearly always attachable and often lockable, both of their mountings and their closure. Side-loading saddle bags are especially suitable for carefully packed clothing and taking into hotel rooms (like a suitcase), while top-loading hard saddle bags are preferred by other users. Utility top-loading soft saddle bags often come in a “throw-over” form without mountings or fixings, perhaps safely held in place under the rider or pillion - or simply loose.

Modern touring motorcycles often have panniers fitted as standard or they may be available as options on particular models. But most panniers come from local workshop industries which are not formally linked to the manufacturers of the motorcycle. The fixings of such panniers will be model specific, but the lucky rider may have a choice as to the actual case carried. Amongst many popular bikes and styles, Honda and Harley Davidson have branded and paved there way into the cruiser market. Saddlebags come in different shapes and sizes and are used as luggage or a container to carry around items. It is also a style or status symbol within the biker community, picking leather saddlebags.

FSB-001

Leather saddle bags are made from an unique double-layer leather construction. A top layer of choice top grain leather is permanently bonded to a lower layer of tough silicon-rubber treated leather. This results in a leather composite with a thickness exceeding 1/8 of an inch, equivalent to a superior strength 10 to 12 oz leather .

Since the inner silicon-rubber treated leather has an increased wear-life versus other leather, the products maintain their durability and strength longer than products with equivalent leather thickness. This allows the products to maintain their overall shape, whether empty or fully loaded, for many, many riding seasons.  Unlike some other saddlebags, which will completely lose their form, these bags will retain their general shape and continuity and not turn into ‘play doh’ bags after a year or two.

YKK nylon zippers, stainless steel buckles and rivets, and is nylon stitched and riveted to a custom vacuum formed high-density polyethylene backing.

The bags also include an ABS plastic lining, that’s why our bags hold their shape so well. This makes our motorcycle saddlebags stronger, lighter and extremely resilient

A double-layered reinforced leather handle is riveted to back of the saddlebags. Included with the saddlebags is a 2” wide adjustable strap for carrying bags over the shoulder.

Amongst many popular bikes and styles, Honda and Harley Davidson have branded and paved there way into the cruiser market. Saddlebags come in different shapes and sizes and are used as luggage or a container to carry around items. It is also a style or status symbol within the biker community.

Motorcycling Cordura suits

July 17th, 2009 by faport

FAP-DAS-1721

Motorcycle protection apparel
is always a must. This also includes motorcycle suits as well. Reason being suits offer protection in case of a fall; because they are substantially have armor protection to offer for knees, back, elbows, shins, shoulders, hips so, you can also put on your work clothes, put a riding suit over your work clothes in about 30 seconds, drive to work in pretty much any temperature whether rain or shine, and get there in decent shape. It would take about maximum 30 seconds to remove the riding suit.

Industry of motorcycle clothing has really gone advanced during the past few years with advances in manufacturing techniques, materials and product development and there are almost no more bikers being conventional buyers. Leather used to be the only material for motorcycling clothing in past but now a choice of materials including Cordura is very popular and high in demand. This material is lighter than leather making racing suits more comfortable whilst riding and are also far better for protection against the harsh cold or scorching hot weather conditions. D600 Cordura material has fantastic anti abrasion and wear and tear properties.

FAP-DAS-1726

Cordura racing suits are a good choice. As a matter of fact Cordura possess the high wear and tear resistance and is good to keep rider safe from harsh weather conditions. Also these textile garments dry out much faster than leathers so when touring, clothing made from these materials are a good idea.

Cordura riding suits are made of 1.0 mm thick perforated cowhide leather and D600 poly Cordura. This combination reduces the overall weight by half for this suit. Pre-curved sleeves with stretchable Kevlar for proper riding position are also an important feature of these suits. Dual stitched seams with nylon stitching add durability. These Cordura suits are perforated in sleeves as leather is notoriously hot in summers. Stretchable Kevlar at crotch, inner arms, behind knees and lower half of legs for perfect fit and ease of movement. Strong YKK zippers all over the suit are used..

Cordura material keeps rider warm when needed but also allow vents in the design of the garment to let in air when it is scorching hot outside. Also these textile garments dry out much faster than leathers so when touring, clothing made from these materials are a good idea

Fitting issue must not be ignored at all. Racing suit must be bit tight however; a racing Cordura suit that is too tight may cut off circulation. Just make sure the required measurements taken for buying a suit should be taken and noted accurately. Varied options may also include pockets, how perforated, and will it easily accept extra armor?.

Protection offered by a Cordura riding suit is not a deniable fact. Cordura suits have fully removable Injection Molded Armor at knees, shoulders, and elbows. This armor is far superior compared to what other retailers’ offer. These suits also have removable dual density spine protector and fixed double density hip armor. Cordura stretch panels at lower back and above the knees Fixed Mesh lining Velcro’s for attaching knee pucks are sewn on. Knee sliders are attached to the Cordura racing suits and come with the suit for free.

All features of the motorcycle Cordura suits are tested from the seams to the zippers to ensure high resistance for tearing, cuts, impact abrasion, and burst resistance. Armor for extra protection is inserted into the shoulder area, back, hips, knees and elbows. Leather is the most traditional form of motorbike clothing but even that has advanced in recent years.

Whatever riding suit you buy, it’s important it be comfortable or you won’t want to wear it. Riding suits are a must as all motorcyclists are aware of this fact. Whether buy one piece racing suit or a two piece motorcycle riding suit that is on the discretion of the biker
